It has been said that March winds and April showers help to bring May flowers. Well, we’ve had January & February winds, showers, snow, and hail, so I think we are all ready for the milder seasonal weather to lift our spirits. Whatever the unpredictable weather will bring, you can depend on MAC to bring shows and music to lift your spirits.
This month begins with the Annual Schools’ Student Art Show from March 8 through March 23, every weekend from 1-4:00 p.m. This show is held in the Arts Center’s Charles W. Hall Gallery at 231 North Main Street and is coordinated by artist members Sue Hollister and Lin Gotta in collaboration with the art teachers at our local schools: Elmer Thienes and Mary Hall Elementary School in Marlborough; RHAM Middle and High Schools in Hebron; and the Elementary schools of Gilead Hill, Hebron and Andover. There will be two Opening Receptions, March 8 and March 9, because of all the students and families involved. See our website www.marlborougharts.org for more details as well as announcements in the news media. Then come to enjoy and be impressed by the talents and creativity of our young artists, and artists they are.
At the end of the month our 4th Friday @ the Arts Cafe features Ashly Cruz, who literally is back by popular demand. Her sultry voice and dramatic renditions in her Cabaret-style program will have you moving and smiling and totally involved. She has added an homage to Ella Fitzgerald to her jazz and blues, something you do not want to miss and we hope to see many of you at MAC on Friday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. Come early to get a good seat and settle in for a fun evening.
Our classes are increasing also after the winter snows with Audrey Carroll Prucnal‘s Watercolor class starting on March 26 (Wednesdays, 6-8 pm); Marcia Letourneau‘s Acrylic Painting for Children starting April 5 (4 Saturdays, 3-4:15 pm); Rita Paradis‘ Colored Pencils on May 10 (10am-3 pm); and continuing are Open Studio on Wednesdays from 2-4 pm and Dean Waite‘s Painting with Acrylics and Oils every Thursday from 1-3 pm. Newer classes are in the planning stages. Again, you can check on all of our activities on our website.
We have other exhibits and activities in the planning stages. I will always keep you informed and I hope you also keep looking for our announcements. Furthermore, I hope you visit us at the Arts Center. As you can see above, when we have a show we are open every weekend, Saturday and Sunday, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Classes are held during the week. So, don’t just drive by; come on in.
And when you do, look around and think how perfect a place the Arts Center is as a site for your own family or business reception or party. Renting the beautiful Charles W. Hall Gallery with its surrounding walls of artworks is easy; the classroom in the lower level is also available. All you need do is contact me at (860) 295-9565 for rental details.
Happy Transition to Spring to you all,
Joan
