President Joan C. Lester’s June 2014 Letter to the Membership

Hello All !  These days can’t you just hear Nettie singing in Carousel: “June is bustin’ out all over”?  Beyond June’s bustin’ and bloomin’ around us,  MAC is also bustin’ with activity.

Last month I mentioned our Annual Summer Pot Luck Dinner and Membership Meeting  hosted by the Board for all our members & promised the date when it was confirmed; well, here it is. Monday, June 23, from 6-8 p.m. at Blish Park. We provide the food. You may bring your own drinks and join in to meet and greet the Board and other members whom you know, and even those you may be meeting for the first time. We always have food “a plenty”, as Nettie would also have said, and right on the Lake is a lovely spot to enjoy together.

And while you are circling dates on your calendars, add Friday, the 13th, of June which is the Opening Reception from 6-8 p.m. for our juried Photography Show in the beautiful Charles W. Hall Art Gallery. This is one Friday the 13th that will be lucky, for sure. The show officially begins the next day and is open from 1-4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday from June 14 – June 29. Most of us have probably taken pictures with various cameras, but when you view photography by artists there is a whole different level of creativity and, often, of awe that is apparent.

Our 4th Friday @ the Arts Cafe musical evenings do continue over the summer, so plan some of your vacation time with us for delightful music of all genres in the great acoustics of the Art Gallery. On June 27, from 7:30 – 9 p.m. we are hosting John Rousey, know to his legion of fans as “One-Eyed Johnny”. His sound is unique and his own songs ring true to the Delta Blues he plays. He adds harmonica to his music in a way that many say, “If you haven’t heard One-Eyed Johnny play the harmonica, then you haven’t truly heard the harmonica”.

I sincerely hope you join in this month to experience the Annual Meeting, the Photography Show, and the 4th Friday @ the Arts Cafe. Three very different pleasures yet all representative of the spirit and skills in MAC.

There are also many classes for all ages over the summer, some new and some continuing: colored pencil, Yoga flags (a Mommy & Me class), photography, pottery, open studios, figure study,  and fundamentals of painting. Details on these classes, their well-known artist instructors, and times, are always on our website at www.marlborougharts.org  as well as in regional news media resources, or call (860) 295-9389.

The Arts Center can do all of this because of you, all our loyal members who support the organization with your love of the arts in their myriad forms. Thank You. So come on down to enjoy the fruits of these arts right here in Marlborough!
