Modern Riffs: Friday, May 24

Riffs May 4th 4

The Modern Riffs (www.modernriffs.com) is a Marlborough-based classic rock, jazz, and pop band that will be performing at the 4th Friday @ the Arts Café hosted by the Marlborough Arts Center on May 24th at 7:30 p.m.

This inspiring group, founded in 2008 by saxophonist Bruce Phelps, is a collaboration of exceptionally talented high school musicians and long-time experienced musicians. Their featured vocalist is the talented Alana Calhoun—a RHAM senior who’s bound for Berklee College Of Music this fall. She is backed by a terrific rhythm section consisting of adult mentors Keith Coakley on keyboards and Glenn Hansen on drums, along with Bolton High School junior Emma Desrosiers on bass guitar. The powerful horn section is composed of Annie Hageman and Trevor Hooker on trumpets, Chris Allinson on tenor saxophone, Finn
Blake on baritone saxophone and Phelps on alto saxophone. Blake and Hooker are RHAM students, and Allinson is from Bolton High School, while Hageman is a recent Skidmore College graduate who attended Bacon Academy.

Marlborough Arts has hosted The Modern Riffs several times since 2008, and their enthusiastic audiences have enabled the Riffs to provide a great musical experience to more than 50 young musicians over the
years — many of whom have become professional musicians and teachers. The Marlborough Arts Center located at 231 North Main Street in Marlborough, CT. It is fully accessible and has ample parking. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.. Admission is $10.
