The Marlborough Arts Center is pleased to announce fall classes in watercolor and pastel painting for adults. Classes will be held at the Arts Center, 231 North Main Street, Marlborough.
Classes in Pastel Painting will begin on Monday, September 9, from 10:00 to Noon. Classes will meet through October 14, 2024. Students enrolling in this class should have some basic experience in working with chalk pastels or have taken the first pastel class at the Marlborough Arts Center this past summer. Rebecca Moran, artist and professor of Visual Arts at Eastern Connecticut State University, will teach the class. Class size is limited to ten students.
Classes in Watercolor Painting for Basic Beginners will begin on Tuesday, September 17, from 10:00 to Noon in the Ars Center. Classes will run through October 27. This class introduces the very basics: brush handling, laying a wash, making simple shapes, controlling values, mixing colors. Subject matter will include still life objects and landscape elements.
Classes for Beyond the Basics in Watercolor will begin on Friday, September 21, from 10:00 to Noon and will meet through October 30. This class assumes knowledge of the basics – laying a wash, controlling values, brush handling, mixing colors. Emphasis will be on composition, color theory, working from photos and still life setups.
Local artist Mary Horrigan will teach both watercolor classes. Mary has taught classes and exhibited her paintings in the area for several years. Her paintings have been exhibited in Maine, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, and have won several awards.
Cost for the classes is $120.00. Registration forms can be downloaded here, and a check mailed to The Marlborough Arts Center, 231 North Main Street, Marlborough, CT 06447.
