Marlborough Arts Center’s 4th Friday @ the Arts Café on Friday March 22, 2019 is hosting a really special evening of short plays by the well-known poet/playwright Melanie Greenhouse. She has chosen three more short plays from her book “Read My Shorts”, available on Amazon.com, to perform at MAC plus one brand new play. They are titled “Heart of the Husband,” “Mr. & Mrs. Phipps,” “Conversation with an Ordinary Glass of Water,” and “Luigi Fettucini & Donatella Lacrimosa.” A talented cast of theater veterans includes Linda Fouché, Anna Maria Trusky, Priscilla Moore, & Michael Vernon Davis. Musical interludes will be played by Toad and Friends.
These plays are funny, a little dark, with brilliant plot twists that lead the audience to see life from a new lens. The playwright now lives in Columbia, CT, but for three decades has been part of the literary scene in Mystic & Noank, the place that inspired her full-length plays “Point of Land” and “The Duchess of Noank.” Her play “Chestina Vinessa Poulson” is an autobiographical portrayal of a post-holocaust family settling in a remote section of Virginia and how two minorities co-exist in a very segregated part of the country. Melanie also guided the popular literary series, The Arts Café-Mystic, through its first decade. Since 2008 she has developed “Gray Dawn Breaking,” a program that uses life stories to enhance memory and cognition in the older individual.
This 4th Friday will be a scintillating and thought-provoking evening enlivened by many laughs. The Marlborough Arts Center is located at 231 North Main Street in Marlborough, CT and is housed in an historic building that has ample parking and is fully accessible. Admission is $10 per person.
