The instructor, Susan Hourihan, will guide the class in using creative techniques to work through anxieties. Susan Hourihan teaches high school art classes in the Westbrook school district and has firsthand experience in working with teenage anxiety. “Schoolwork, homework, sports, friends, parents hormones, feelings…ACNE! – It’s overload!” according to Susan. She observes that teens carry a lot of stress daily, and all that stress can lead to anxiety. This class promises to help combat anxiety while having fun and learning creative stress-reducing activities. By having the group meet weekly, a small social community will develop, giving the participants some fun and expressive art time.
One-time drop-ins are welcome for those who cannot commit to a six week block of time. Cost for the six-week session is $300. A single class is $60. Students are asked to bring to the first class an old hard-covered book that will be used to make an altered book. Registration forms are available here.
