Spring Classes with Jackie Jones

Spring Classes with Jackie Jones

Jackie Jones will continue her very popular morning classes in beginner oils and acrylics and afternoon classes in all media. Session 1: March 6, 13th, 20th, (No class the 27th) and April 3rd. Session 2: April 10th, 17th (No class the 24th), May 1st and 8th at the Marlborough Arts Center, 231 North Main Street in Marlborough. The classes are from 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon and 1:00 – 4pm. The complete set of four classes, either morning or afternoon, is 12 hours in length. The fee for one complete set of classes is $120.

1).BEGINNER OILS & ACRYLICS 9-12
This class is designed for those new to painting. We will make our own black and white 9 step value scale and a color wheel. Next we will practice basic black and white values, followed by color mixing exercises. Lastly we will paint a simple landscape from a, provided, photograph. Note: Although my specialty is oils and acrylics, all mediums are welcome. * Starter art kits can be purchased for an additional fee, if you do not have supplies (email Jackie at jacquelinejonesart@gmail.com for pricing).

2). PAINTING THE LANDSCAPE IN ALL MEDIA 1-4
In this class, students will create a landscape painting using photographic reference (bring your favorite photos or use mine). The goal is to create simple designs with strong foundations derived from a ‘thumbnail’ value sketch. Value, composition and technique will be stressed as well as capturing the feeling of a landscape, rather than just copying a photograph. This class will include an instructor demo and plenty of individual attention.

Holiday Member Show

All about the Holiday Member Show

DESCRIPTION:

This non juried show will be open to all members of the Marlborough Art Center.  There will be no size restrictions and both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional works will be accepted. This exhibit will consist of a buy, take and replace model. All works on display must be available for purchase. Once purchased, a buyer is at liberty to take the work immediately upon payment. Once an artwork has left the gallery, the artist may put a new work in its place. There is no entry fee for additional works after sales of initial entries.

Deliver entries to the lower level of the art center on either Sunday, November 25th between 1 and 4 PM or Monday, November 26th between 4 and 7 PM

Marlborough Art Center will promote the exhibit to the public through press releases to the local media, our email list, website and Facebook page to encourage sales during the Holiday shopping season.

Artist reception – January 13 – 1 – 4 pm

Pick up of all artwork

Saturday, February 23rd – 9 am – Noon

Sunday, February 24th – 1-3 pm

SUBMISSIONS/FEES

All wall-hung art MUST be securely wired for hanging.  Sculptors must provide their own stands.

Each artist will be able to submit three entries for a fee of $20. If they are not a paid up 2018 member, they will be required to prepay 2019 dues ($30 for individual or $25 for Senior). Items sold during the sale may be replaced by the artist with no additional fees.

We are encouraging our artists to submit entries that are reasonably priced and could be purchased as a holiday gift.  To assist, the art center will reduce the gallery sales commission from 30% to 20%.

Publicity will be focused on bringing more people into the art center during the course of the show. Prior to the holidays, we will encourage our neighbors to “shop locally” for gifts. Since we are not limiting the submissions by media type, there should be enough of a range to satisfy most people.

While the entry to this show is not juried, we will have a prize committee consisting of past presidents of the art center along with a local graphic artist. They will bring different tastes and backgrounds to the judging and award Past President’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes at the artist reception.  We expect to have at least $500 in prize money.

Judging for Presidential awards will be done during the week before the artist reception.  Awards will be given at the Artist reception. During this show, the art center will be hosting three major fourth Friday concerts on November 30th, January 21st and February 22nd.  We will be conducting a “People’s Choice” voting approach during these concerts as an experiment for future shows.  Historically, we have had between 50 and 100 people attend these events.  Attendees at these events will be given a voting “token” and asked to select that piece of art that they feel is the best in the show. The attendee will write the number of the piece on the token and drop it into a container. After the end of the event, the most popular piece will receive a “People’s Choice” award. The amount of the award will be determined by the amount collected by the show committee.

The following application should be filled out and delivered with your entries at the receiving on November 25th or 26th.

We Need You !!

If you aren’t a member of the Arts Center,  we hope you will consider joining now as a supporter of the Arts Center.

Every individual member is important. Not only do your dues support the organization’s overall mission of providing a center for the arts in this region, but you should also know that this is realized in the everyday activities. These include art shows, art classes, 4th Friday @ the Arts Cafe musical evenings, rentals of our beautiful building for special occasions, and, of course, the addition in mid-2015 of the “land next door” which has been developed into an ART PARK with walking trails, several sculptures installed with more welcome, and we grateful to receive donations toward development to continue the work.

Joining is simple!  MAC holds the IRS 401(c)3 status and membership fee and donations are fully deductible.  Complete the enclosed membership form, include a check made payable to “Marlborough Arts Center” and mail to Marlborough Arts Center, Attn: Membership, 231 North Main Street, Marlborough CT 06447.  Or go to PayPal and pay on-line to info@marlborougharts.org, but be certain to click the annual renewal level.

We suggest that you save our website, www.marlborougharts.org as a Favorite to see what Art Shows, classes, concerts, and other artistic events are scheduled.  There you will also find a tab for the 4th Friday @ The Arts Café and a list of all musicians playing in 2018. This way you can plan ahead to come and enjoy these special fun and interactive evenings. Check local news media also for publicity on all events. We are particularly honored that the Connecticut Watercolor Society has again chosen MAC to host their Autumn Art Show in November, during which we also plan to open the Gift Shop for the Fall & Holiday season with one-of-a-kind artworks for sale. We are proud to be presenting in the spring of 2018 “East of the River Juried Art Show 2” as the first was tremendously successful including wonderful awards for the fabulous artist community in the region.

We always have several artistic and community events going on for which we truly need your support and welcome your participation.  Do join us today! Thank you!

Cordially,

The Board of Directors, Marlborough Arts Center
