All about the Holiday Member Show

DESCRIPTION:

This non juried show will be open to all members of the Marlborough Art Center.  There will be no size restrictions and both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional works will be accepted. This exhibit will consist of a buy, take and replace model. All works on display must be available for purchase. Once purchased, a buyer is at liberty to take the work immediately upon payment. Once an artwork has left the gallery, the artist may put a new work in its place. There is no entry fee for additional works after sales of initial entries.

Deliver entries to the lower level of the art center on either Sunday, November 25th between 1 and 4 PM or Monday, November 26th between 4 and 7 PM

Marlborough Art Center will promote the exhibit to the public through press releases to the local media, our email list, website and Facebook page to encourage sales during the Holiday shopping season.

Artist reception – January 13 – 1 – 4 pm

Pick up of all artwork

Saturday, February 23rd – 9 am – Noon

Sunday, February 24th – 1-3 pm

SUBMISSIONS/FEES

All wall-hung art MUST be securely wired for hanging.  Sculptors must provide their own stands.

Each artist will be able to submit three entries for a fee of $20. If they are not a paid up 2018 member, they will be required to prepay 2019 dues ($30 for individual or $25 for Senior). Items sold during the sale may be replaced by the artist with no additional fees.

We are encouraging our artists to submit entries that are reasonably priced and could be purchased as a holiday gift.  To assist, the art center will reduce the gallery sales commission from 30% to 20%.

Publicity will be focused on bringing more people into the art center during the course of the show. Prior to the holidays, we will encourage our neighbors to “shop locally” for gifts. Since we are not limiting the submissions by media type, there should be enough of a range to satisfy most people.

While the entry to this show is not juried, we will have a prize committee consisting of past presidents of the art center along with a local graphic artist. They will bring different tastes and backgrounds to the judging and award Past President’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes at the artist reception.  We expect to have at least $500 in prize money.

Judging for Presidential awards will be done during the week before the artist reception.  Awards will be given at the Artist reception. During this show, the art center will be hosting three major fourth Friday concerts on November 30th, January 21st and February 22nd.  We will be conducting a “People’s Choice” voting approach during these concerts as an experiment for future shows.  Historically, we have had between 50 and 100 people attend these events.  Attendees at these events will be given a voting “token” and asked to select that piece of art that they feel is the best in the show. The attendee will write the number of the piece on the token and drop it into a container. After the end of the event, the most popular piece will receive a “People’s Choice” award. The amount of the award will be determined by the amount collected by the show committee.

The following application should be filled out and delivered with your entries at the receiving on November 25th or 26th.

October’s 4th Friday@ the Arts Cafe

We are pleased to announce that there will be blue grass and more at the Marlborough Arts Center, 231 North Main Street in Marlborough, CT when “Grass Routes” plays the 4th Friday @ the Arts Cafe on Friday, October 26, 2018. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m., but doors open at 7:00 p.m.

Although known as bluegrass players, the “Grass Routes” also play folk and country and are a delightful and personable five-member group with Bill Reveley, Marilyn Toback-Reveley, Joe Lemeris, Joe Delillo, and Tim St. Jean playing multiple instruments including mandolin, fiddle, guitar, banjo, and upright bass. Unique to this group that has been together for over 20 years is that each member sings lead, so their harmonies change with each song and promise a night to remember in the beautiful Charles W. Hall Art Gallery. This is a real gift for all bluegrass lovers, and an unexpected pleasure for those who may not be familiar with the group. This is a return concert for the group and if you missed them before you will certainly want to be part of the enthusiastic audience this time.

Admission at the door is $10/person. BYOWine, with other refreshments available.

The Marlborough Arts Center is a non-profit regional center for the arts with website at www.marlborougharts.org and telephone (860) 295-9389. The building is fully accessible and there is ample parking.

Carole Jeffries paintings on display at the Marlborough CT Town Hall Gallery

The Marlborough Arts Center is pleased to announce the Marlborough Town Hall Gallery is currently exhibiting oil paintings by Carole Jeffries. Carole is a long time Marlborough resident, and a member of many local art associations . She has always been inspired by the many varied shapes and colors of nature. Since retiring from the insurance industry, she has enjoyed doing what she always looked forward to doing- painting and sharing her views of nature in many colorful depictions of primarily local landscapes. We hope you will stop in to see and enjoy some of her work too that will be up through December.
