New classes being offered by Jackie Jones

Jackie Jones will continue her very popular morning classes in beginner oils and acrylics, and afternoon classes in all media on September 12, 19, 26 and October 3, 2018 at the Marlborough Arts Center, 231 North Main Street in Marlborough. The morning classes are from 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon. The afternoon classes are from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.  The complete set of four classes, either morning or afternoon, is 12 hours in length. The fee for one complete set of classes is $120.

1).BEGINNER OILS & ACRYLICS 9-12
This class is designed for those new to painting. We will make our on black and white 9 step value scale and a color wheel. Next we will create a basic black and white still life then on to color mixing exercises. Lastly we will paint a simple landscape from a, provided, photograph. Note: Although my specialty is oils and acrylics, all mediums are welcome.

2). PAINTING THE LANDSCAPE IN ALL MEDIA 1-4
In this class, students will create a landscape painting using photographic reference (bring your favorite photos or use mine). The goal is to create simple designs with strong foundations derived from a ‘thumbnail’ value sketch. Value, composition and technique will be stressed as well as capturing the feeling of a landscape, rather than just copying a photograph. This class will include an instructor demo and plenty of individual attention.

Call to artists for Holiday Member Show

If you are an artist member of the Marlborough Art Center, we invite you to participate in our Holiday Member Show.  This show will run from late November through February with the goal of introducing the Art Center, our artists and their work to buyers at a time when people are looking for that unique holiday gift.

This is not a juried show but there will be a committee that will award prizes.  Each artist will be able to submit up to 3 pieces.  There will be no size restrictions and both 2 dimensional painters and 3 dimensional sculptors/jewelers will be encouraged to participate.  And to add a little to the artist’s holiday cheer, the Art Center will only retain 20% of the sale price rather than the customary 30%.

If you are a paid up member your Entry Fee will be $10 for the 1st piece and $5 (each) for the 2nd and 3rd pieces.  If you have not paid 2018 dues or are a Non-member, you will be expected to pay 2019 dues in advance along with the Entry Fees stated above.

We have a lot to do to pull this show together and we would ask for your help to get it done.  The first thing we need is a headcount of how many artists to expect.  If you feel that you would like to participate, please send an email to roywrenn@aol.com as soon as conveniently possible.

If you feel that you can help in any other way (planning, hanging, sitting, cash acquisition for prizes, decorating), please let us know that also.  As soon as we can determine that we have enough participating artists, an adequate volunteer staff and enough potential prize money, we will finalize the details and get back to you.

We hope that you will be a part of this show and help us to show the community that Marlborough Art Center should be a first stop for unique holiday gifts.

Newest addition to the ART PARK!

Marlborough Arts Center Art Park Bob Jeffries hand-crafted matching gate
Bob Jeffries’ hand-crafted matching gate

This hand-crafted matching gate was made by member Bob Jeffries to add a double entry to the ART PARK. Bob has been working diligently in the ART PARK and we can all appreciate his patience and time. When next at MAC, do take a walk around the trail and admire this fine addition to our land and artistic environment. More sculptures and art works will be added in the future.
